Holding On is OUT NOW — my first new song in six years!
And honestly, it nearly didn't make it public at all. So here’s the full story of how this track came to be, what it means, and why I’m so grateful to finally share it with you today.

Born in Burnout

Back in May 2023, I wrote a song. No surprises there, very on-brand for me. Except this time it had been four years (and a pandemic!) since I last wrote anything, and now I wasn’t really part of a musical community, didn’t have any songwriting structures or processes in place anymore, and I was trying to juggle multiple jobs and parenting and save whatever sanity was left at the end of the week.
So when inspiration, energy and headspace all arrived at once, I sat down and wrote something out of that place of overwhelm and utter fatigue. Something I loved. It was called “Holding Onto You” back then, and my cat — who got the first exclusive listen — was extremely impressed. But I had no idea if it would ever make it further than my living room. Maybe this one was just for me?
Fast-forward to February 2025. I hadn’t given the song much thought, life continued at neck-breaking speed. Church had just finished when a friend gently caught me by the arm. “I think I have a word for you… Do you have a song? God says it’s ready now.” I was speechless. “Wow,” she went on, visibly impacted as she spoke, “Yep, it’s ready now!” I mean… how do you argue with that?! It felt like God had reached through my chaotic, overgrown life and shone a light on a path ahead. It was time to record.

The Missing Piece
So I booked in with the brilliant Tom Auton (who produced Journey On and Your Ways) and two weeks later, I was in his Cardiff studio, watching him breathe depth and clarity into the track. Thanks to Tom, its character was coming through beautifully, yet I still wasn’t sure how to finish it. It didn’t have a bridge, and I didn’t want to force one, but it also needed something to give it a lift.
So while in the studio, as Tom was working his producer magic, I began looking up Bible verses, looking for what God might want to say to someone listening to this song, seeking that reassurance that these hardships are somehow worth something. That the months I’d spent pushing through the toughest season I’d ever faced would not be months of my life wasted, but that they’d produced something valuable and eternal somehow. I wanted a passage that would bring that encouragement to everyone in that place, that they are seen and honoured, and to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus.
I found it. 2 Corinthians 4.
Suddenly my heart leapt in my chest, those verses carried exactly the message the song had been reaching for. I decided not to try to write a verse around them, but just to read them as they were written. Tom started shaping the production around that passage, and it became this anthemic, lifting moment that became key to the final version of the track. It turned the song from a quiet prayer into a declaration of hope.

Now, Holding On is finally here – musically, the song bridges Contemporary Christian pop with ambient chill – the kind of song that doesn’t demand anything from you, just sits with you. It’s for you, whether you’re fighting a private battle and feel like yuor strength is running out, or you’re just seeking the space to lift your eyes up to heaven for a few minutes.
I hope it can be a soft, steady, heartbeat that reminds you – you’re not wasted while you go through the wasteland. If you’ve run out of ideas, run out of tears, run out of hope and you don’t know what to pray anymore, I hope this song whispers to you: it’s okay. God is holding onto you. He has heard you, He has seen you and He is never letting go.
The Journey Continues
After so long away from music ministry, I honestly didn’t know if I’d get another chance to release new music! But God has this beautiful, inconvenient habit of using our talents and passions, even when we’re not paying much attention to them.
A massive thank you for all the messages you’ve been sending about Holding On, please do get in touch if you have a story for me – I really treasure hearing how the track has been encouraging you! I’m just praying this track does the work it’s supposed to do and reaches the people it needs to reach.
